New International Student Check-In Procedure

Urgent New Student Check-In and Registration Information

Welcome to the Office of International Students and Scholars at Wayne State University.  We hope that you have a rewarding experience during your studies at Wayne State University

The Department of Homeland Security requires all new students to check in with the institution you plan to attend.  You will need to fulfill this requirement by completing the On-line New Student Data Form. 

Once you complete the Online Check-In process and purchase your WSU Health Insurance your registration holds will be released.  

 Please follow the instructions below:

Please note the check-in process must be completed before arriving at the
Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS).

 

Check-In Process:

  • Access the link https://www.wsuoiss.wayne.edu/Forms/strecform/form.php from any computer with internet access. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet upon arriving in the U.S., the David Adamany Undergraduate Library on Wayne State University’s campus has computer workstations for students to use.
  • You must make copies of your Immigration Documents as follows and bring them to OISS after you do the on-line check in:
      • Copy of  your stamped I-20 or DS-2019
      • Front and back copy of your Form I-94
      • Copy of the data pages (first three pages of your passport - non-Canadian Citizens)
      • Visa (excluding Canadian Citizens)
      • Proof of Canadian Citizenship (Canadian citizens only)


Health Insurance

  • Purchasing Health insurance is the last step in the check-in process. 
  • You will need to come to OISS and complete the OISS Health Insurance Form.  Please refer to the IMPORTANT HEALTH INSURANCE INFORMATION sheet.
  • Travel insurance is not accepted at Wayne State University. Please do not purchase alternative health insurance unless it meets all of the 6 criteria listed.  You can also contact our office to verify that the alternative health insurance you plan to purchase will be accepted.  You can contact us at oissmail@wayne.edu or (313) 577-3422.
